David Schneider M.D. is an author and one of the most sought-after total shoulder and elbow replacement surgeons in the world. He holds three U.S. patents in shoulder implants and had served as a team physician for several professional teams. Dr. Schneider speaks about innovation, historical trends, the future use of technology in surgery, and advises us on the past, the present and the future of medicine.
In his book, The Invention of Surgery, A History of Modern Medicine: From the Renaissance to the Implant Revolution, Dr. Schneider explains the dramatic progress of improvement in surgery and highlights the continuous transformation as new technologies are constantly reinventing both the practice and the nature of the objects we are implanting in our bodies. Dr. Schneider currently holds three U.S. patents for the work he has done in designing new shoulder implants. He has been involved in implant design for both Biomet and Zimmer. Dr. Schneider also acts as an educational consultant for several sports medicine and shoulder companies including Arthrex and Stryker.
Dr. David Schneider has served as a team physician for several professional teams, including the Los Angeles Lakers, the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Los Angeles Galaxy and several others. He is currently a USA Rugby team physician. He was also a physician for collegiate athletics for Penn State University, Loyola Marymount University and University of South California.
Dr. Schneider is passionate about research and has received numerous awards for his work. He has been awarded the American Orthopedic Association Travel Award, the Hip Society’s Stinchfield Award, and the Eastern Orthopedic Association Founder’s Award, among others.
He has been published in numerous prestigious, peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Schneider has written for the New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of Dental Research, Journal of Orthopaedic Research, among many others. He is a frequent guest on regional radio and TV programs.
