Alberto Alemanno is an internationally recognised scholar, author and leading voice on European politics, democracy, public policy and civic engagement. He is the Jean Monnet Professor of European Union Law & Policy at HEC Paris and has served as a Democracy Fellow at Harvard University’s Ash Center. His work focuses on strengthening democratic institutions, making political decision-making more accessible and empowering citizens to influence the policies that shape their lives.
A passionate advocate for democratic reform, Alemanno is the founder of The Good Lobby, a nonprofit organisation dedicated to giving citizens and civil society greater influence in political decision-making. He has advised the European Parliament, European Commission, OECD and World Health Organization, and has contributed to campaigns addressing consumer rights, public health, government transparency and corporate accountability.
Alemanno is the author and editor of more than a dozen books and numerous academic publications. His acclaimed book, Lobbying for Change: Find Your Voice to Create a Better Society (2017), challenges the idea that lobbying should be reserved for powerful corporations and wealthy interest groups. Through real-world examples, he demonstrates how ordinary citizens can use their skills, knowledge and networks to influence policy and create meaningful social change. The book has also been translated into Italian and Spanish.
His other publications include Nudge and the Law: A European Perspective, which examines how behavioural science can inform regulation and public policy, and Reinventing Legal Education: How Clinical Education Is Reforming the Teaching and Practice of Law in Europe, which explores innovative approaches to legal education. He also edited The Law and Governance of the EU Public Ethics System: An Institutional Perspective (2025), examining ethics, accountability and integrity within European institutions.
Recognised as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum and named among Europe’s most influential figures by Politico, Alemanno is a prominent commentator on European affairs and democratic governance. Drawing on his academic expertise and practical experience of shaping policy, he offers audiences thought-provoking insights into the future of Europe, the challenges facing democracy, corporate influence and the growing importance of citizen participation in a rapidly changing political landscape. Alemanno speaks Spanish, French, English & Italian.
