Anima Anandkumar
Senior Director of AI Research, NVIDIA | Bren Professor, Computing and Mathematical Sciences, California Institute of Technology
Anima Anandkumar offers that rare combination of leading-edge academic research with equally deep experience in business and practical applications. She specializes in using AI in cloud computing to solve real world problems. Anima Anandkumar is a 2023 Guggenheim Fellow in computer science, Senior Director of AI Research at NVIDIA and a Bren professor at Caltech. She is a former Principal Scientist at Amazon Web Services (AWS).
AI and AWS. While at Amazon’s web services, Anima was head of research and development providing enterprises with artificial intelligence tools. These include applications for image, scene, and face recognition, chatbot development tools, and real-time text to speech translation. But AI can be applied to an almost limitless range of practical and business problems, and Anima is at the forefront of this expansion, as both a theorist and a practitioner.
Innovation. Anima also speaks on innovation in the broader sense. She is a champion for enabling AI methods and tools in every part of the cloud and for the kind of progressive, incremental improvements in performance that can make a big difference over time — the same kind of processes with which machines learn.
Credentials. In addition to her position at NVIDIA, Anima Anandkumar holds the endowed Bren chair at CalTech. She has received numerous awards and honors, including a Guggenheim Fellowship, an Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship, a Microsoft Faculty Fellowship, a Google faculty award, and a number of other research and best paper awards. She has been featured in several documentaries and media articles.
